Our Principal Myron Cause M.Sc. B.Sc. FIWSc has 40 yrs timber experience, and has been admitted as a Fellow of the international Institute of Wood Science (London), the highest professional level. Myron has now successfully run his own business for 18 years, having been a private Consultant Wood Scientist since 2000.
Myron’s strong capacity as an independent timber and wood expert was originally built from a career Senior Scientist position heading Wood Utilisation in the Forest Products Research Branch of DPI Forestry, Queensland. In that capacity, he specialised in wood identification, wood properties, applied timber utilisation, and wood decay research. He also co-authored an important technical DPI publication Building Timbers – Properties and Recommendations for their Use in Queensland, which was a referenced document for 16 years in the relevant legislation e.g. Building Code of Australia BCA 1991-2007.
Today Myron has wide consultant experience in all aspects of timber and wood use, including manufactured products and timber in commercial and residential building. He has regularly lectured at specialist workshop courses with the Engineered Wood Products Association of Australia (EWPAA), and is a qualified timber grader with Forest Industry Training and Education Consortium (FITEC) certification in Australian Standards for structural and milled timber products.
He has worked on commercial building issues in four States and overseas. He has also worked with major government and private bodies (energy, resource, and rail transport fields) on decay deterioration and specifications for wood infrastructure assets (poles, sleepers, bridges, wharves, cooling towers). His design durability expertise and team contribution was acknowledged in the Forest and Wood Products Australia 2007 publication Timber Service Life Design Guide. His strong background in professional wood expertise encompasses both private and public sectors, and this blend has created a unique practical focus to deal with current issues.
